UX Writing
In 2022, I conducted a variety of reviews of the writing, text, and tone of Lenovo Vantage as part of a UX writing course with the University of Washington. Below is a selection of the work completed as part of that course.
Heuristic Evaluation
One of the first steps to improving a product’s UX writing is to conduct a heuristic evaluation of the content, including things like best practices, voice & tone, notifications, and edge or error states. This review covers a settings section from the Power page.
Creating a Voice
Outlining a voice & tone creates a quality standard that the text can be held to. The voice chart will outline the type of vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and more. This review outlines Vantage’s voice and applies it to a section from the Power page.
Applying a Narrative Arc
If you know your user’s goals when using your product, you can organize the content to satisfy their needs. This may mean giving information at opportune times or streamlining the interactions. This updated onboarding flow improves the experience based on the user’s narrative arc.
